My Dad
Hi. So sorry to hear about your dad. I am going through this with my dad too. It is heartbreaking. Please email me if you need to talk. You can inquire about low dose radiation to help prevent it from spreading to the brain. The chemo and radiation are really rough, and are typically just to help with symptoms. Where are his tumors? Try to go see him while he is feeling good. Make sure he has someone attending all oncology appts with him. Voice recording them is a good idea so if you have any questions later you can listen to it again. Research as much as you can to help him make good decisions along the way. Hugs fom the heart.
oh my gosh, so glad to have found this site. my dad was assessed for a blood clot last monday after having a minor foot surgery. between monday and friday, we learned my dad who just turned 68 is diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma with metastases to his ribs, pelvis and spine. we are devastated. he was given between 2-18 months depending on how he responds to chemo. we are devastated !! i have 3 children who he means the world to. i went through a terrible divorce 4 years ago and my dad has been my rock. i could not have made it without him. my kids adore him and he adores them. we are still in shock. he had back pain as the only symptom and we thought that was from a fall from a ladder when he was building my kids a swingset a few months ago. he got the diagnosis 2/24 on my son's 6th birthday. ugh. i am heartbroken.
My Dad's MRI showed that it did not reach his brain... yay! He has been receiving radiation and had back tumor removed today...it went well...
Dad has someone taking care of him--his wife...
I have one more week before I get to see him...if you wonder why I "wait" longer, he schedules visits from his family and friends, etc and he schedule mine next week but I get 10 days (double weekends)... :)
Thanks Barelybreathing...so sorry about your dad...I know the feelings... I have been researching alot of stuff and sent emails or tests to his wife...
Thanks Samsdaughter69...so sorry about your dad...know what you mean by being devastated... I have hard time dealing with lung cancer issue because it is deadly...no cure maybe... at least it gives me time to be with Dad again... all I have to do is not taking him for granted and do everything possible to keep in touch with him...
Dad has 3 cancers plus diabetes...it would be miracle if he survives all that and live long time...I hope... he is doing radiation and chemo for several weeks...hope they work well for him...
Hugs to you all! :)
mscinnamonie,
my dad also has diabetes and cancer in his lungs, pelvis, ribs and spine so he sounds a lot like your dad. he is also no longer a candidate for surgery because of the mets. we meet with the oncologist tues to find out results of all the tests they did last week and find out the course of treatment. my dad is chinese and they are hoping he has a special mutated gene that 10-15% of asians have that will improve his response to chemo. this is what we are praying for at this point. what type of cancer does your dad have ?
hang in there,
stacey
My partner has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Her chemotherapy was stopped as she had a bad reaction towards the end. We don't know if there is any other treatment the doctors can offer now, she had radiotherapy at the beginning. We see the doctor on Tuesday. I am looking into complementary therapies rather than just waiting .. Can anyone offer advice please? Thank you.
